NDK 2012 - World Cosplay Summit Prelims Report! [09 Oct 2012|06:29pm]
World Cosplay Summit Prelims Report!

Officially the slowpoke of posting this...

So!  Teca and Shani and a few others asked if we could post about our experiences with summit this year.  Here's mine, sorry if it's a little repetitive for anyone who watches my DA! Thanks for reading!

I look forward to NDK every year.  It was my first out-of-state con and has always been my favorite.  I have made so many amazing friends there and sadly I only get to see some of them once a year.  The masquerade is always full of INSANELY talented people and competing is always a blast.  This year, however, the World Cosplay Summit preliminaries were also to be held there.  As some may know, Elrowiel(aka Zelda) and I planned to make our 3rd attempt at summit this year with our pairs group "Green Jello Cosplay."

It's always new and different each year we have competed in WCS, but we try to learn something from our experiences and polish our work so that our chances will be better next time.  Our first year, we did C.C. and Lelouch from the CLAMP art books and did a dancing skit with much pasadoble and drama.  The second year we decided to focus more on performance(we did Umineko no Naku Koro Ni!) and did a lot of stage magic and had Elrowiel quick change from Beatrice's ball gown into her school uniform.  I think the most unbelievable part was that all the cues and tricks actually worked on that skit when sooo many could go wrong.  We ranked top 10 in the nation, so it was a great feeling to be recognized amid so many talented people!

So this year, what would we do?  I have always ALWAYS wanted to cosplay as Princess Serenity.  Sailor Moon was the very first anime I watched and what got me into cosplay in the first place.  While winning was always something we wanted to shoot for, we decided this year, we wanted to do something we both loved a lot and would enjoy.  I started Serenity back in January(haha yup, before we even competed in the 2012 WCS).  I was lucky enough to get my chiffon for the skirt and a tooon of beads in the fashion district when we went to Anime LA.  I knew the dress as I wanted to make it would be an undertaking, so I wanted to make sure I had time.  Melissa helped me pattern and figure things out.  I have to admit, I'm still lost a lot of the time when it comes to making dresses.  Most of my cosplays up to this point have been pretty men or tomboy-ish girls. ^^;

I really wanted to test-run the costume, so I set my goal for Fanime 2012.  I managed to get most of it done, though there was still a looot of beading to do.  We took some photos though and I got to pose with Kimi's Endymion, which was really fun. XD  I was going for the manga version because it's my favorite of the two dresses.  I'll let Elrowiel tell everyone about her own dress and wig and cloak fun times because that's another story in and of itself.

The hardest part I think was figuring out our performance.  It's something the judges told us needed work and we're still trying to alter and fix to make better before finals.  It was really difficult because the skit that won for 2012 WCS US finals involved mirrors(Coconut Bubble Sex's awesome Princess Tutu skit!) and we felt like with a villain like Queen Nehelenia, we HAD to use mirrors.  I mean.  It's a thing she does.  So how to stay away from being compared to another skit and make it unique and exciting? I guess we will see what we come up with!  But for NDK, I made a mirror-set piece that could come apart and gutted some cameras, then set up a foot-trigger that Elrowiel could step on to symbolize her breaking the glass of the mirror. (Sadly, it worked for every single rehearsal, but malfunctioned on stage.  Such is life. XD)  The other hard part was trying to get a flash to fit into my Silver Crystal and still be bright enough to be seen on stage. X_x    Originally we'd planned to use a magnet-trigger to turn the flash for the crystal on.  Unfortunately, the magnet sensor messed with the flash's charge and we got a lot of really weak and warped looking flashes. XD

ANYWAY, on to the actual con time! It was so much added worry this year's summit would be held amid so many talented people(seriously NDK.  Scary.), but our other options were Hawaii or Maryland and since Denver was closest, we decided to go for it.  I opted out of competing in the masquerade on top of summit stuff, so it was a little strange to not be in the cosplay contest on Saturday.  Still, had tons of fun though!

Friday got to take some pics with Pas and Deej in Tsubasa, then derp around in Princess Serenity and take pictures with the amazing Inoli (And Kimu and all the Paopu Guardians joined us at one point or another XD).  Afterward, got to run around in Matsumoto for a little while, then it was back into Serenity for summit judging. (judging was on Friday, performance was on Sunday)  Much to our surprise Inoli turned out to be one of the judges!  I was both excited and suddenly terrified to see her. XD  She had seen all of my costume and derpy mistakes up close and personal when we'd shot photos just earlier that day! Eeeeep!

Despite all the stress and hard work, I felt really good about our choices for summit costumes this year.  We both really love Sailor Moon and it's been a big influence in our cosplay and I know for me it was actually my first anime.  I've wanted to make that dress since I was only 14. XD  So I felt a lot less stressed during the interviews and judging.  Last year, I was so very nervous(I think we both were - "LIVE YOUR DREAMS!?" XD ) but this year I felt relaxed and had fun answering questions.  Even if we didn't win anything, I felt like I made something that made me happy and I will treasure always.

At judging we also got to meet the other two teams, who were also really awesome. Teca, I've known for a few years now, but Shani and her husband and Lilacwire were all new.  I am always so impressed by the costumes that summit competitions bring in! It's scary and exciting at the same time.  Every competition feels different, but what I loved about this year was that there was so much camaraderie among the candidates.  Sometimes the green room is awkward, sometimes it's scary, but I really felt like everyone there was so supportive and sweet and genuine.  I could honestly say I would be happy for any winner and am very happy for the friends I made of KawaiiCosplay and WildGarden. ♥

Saturday came and I had a minor panic attack when I saw Teca in her cow pajamas asking why we weren't at rehearsal.  REHEARSAL?!  I about screamed.  It was Saturday morning?!   We'd not been able to check the updates to the summit announcements and had missed it.  Spent the rest of the day texting Laura like a maniac and checking my phone to see if we would have a chance to do a dress rehearsal.  LUCKILY, the tech crew was willing to come in early on Sunday and let us go.  We promised them donuts for coming in early, though I think they didn't believe us at first.  Hehehe.

Later that day, got to do some Steampunk style DuRaRaRa with some of my online friends.  We also joined forces later to do (fem)Avengers and then I got to shoot with Noel and Kat in Inuyasha stuff later in the night!

Biggest and most amazing surprise of the whole con was that night when we all met for dinner after masquerade(it's become a tradition I think!).  I came down dressed in my normal-people-clothes and saw an army of florescent green shirts coming toward us!  Pas and Maya and Kay and Mik and all our Denver friends had made "Green Jello Cosplay" t-shirts to cheer us on.  It was so incredibly touching and I feel I am really so lucky to have such sweet and amazing people as friends. We worked so hard to get to summit these last few years that it meant so much to know there were people rooting for us and wishing us luck.  I feel so awkward and stumbly with my words just trying to describe it, but I can say in all sincerity it is one of the most incredible things anyone has done for me.  <3  Much love guys!

Came back to the hotel to find Inoli and Kimu in their cute Fai and Kurogane (Japan world!) costumes.  Guys, I ship KuroFai so hard it's not even funny... XD but they were tipsy and adorable and Teca even snuck by to confiscate our donuts!! After we rescued them, we headed up to bed.

Sunday was the competition itself.  There were maybe 2 tech crew members up that early, but we ended up getting a dozen or so donuts... XD  Hopefully they were enjoyed!  I don't think they knew what to do with them.  We did get to do our run-throughs though and get the lighting and timing cues down, which helped a lot.  Then we went back to get dressed.

I'd been feeling a bit panicky about it all con.  I couldn't really explain it, but all weekend felt like a blur and suddenly summit was HAPPENING and as I tried to explain to Elrowiel (without getting teary and smearing my makeup) was that I needed a "moment of zen" or I'd be all nerves.  Elrowiel helped me calm down before the skit and we took a few deep breaths and prayed and I knew everything would be ok.  We'd never gone first before, always last, so it was intimidating to be the first ones up, but I felt like it went off pretty well!  Seems like no matter how many times we practice, some tiny things manage to go wrong, but overall I was really happy with it.  Seeing the other skits though, I knew it was anyone's game.  KawaiiCosplay did an amazing dance number and had this really awesome set piece and then WildGarden with their precise timing and theatrics, it just gave me goosebumps.  I could totally SEE where the invisible threads were the entire skit.  Can't imagine how much practice it must have been!

As they rounded us all back on stage to announce the winners, I must have squeezed Elrowiel's hand so hard.  We didn't win, but our friends Lilacware and Teca were given the well-deserved prize.  The were so sweet and so gracious and while I couldn't help being a bit disappointed, I couldn't for a moment think that their performance wasn't going to rock the finals.  I remember Teca squeezing everyone so tight and then apologizing.  I told her "no, don't you dare be sorry!  You go and kick some butt for all of us!!" ^^  She invited us all for drinks and foods after our photoshoot, but we had some complications and couldn't make it.

After the contest, I was thrilled to get to do photos with Lynleigh Sato's Queen Beryl!  We'd also planned to do a Tales of Symphonia shoot, but our poor Genis wound up with a bad leg injury. I felt like such a derp running barefoot across the parking lot in my dress to get an EMT, but luckily she was ok and family got her to the hospital quickly.  We will have to make sure that food and drinks with everyone happen next time, as well as a Tales of Symphonia shoot!!

Before we knew it, the con was over and we were headed home.  A bit disappointed, but it was hard to ignore the warm fuzzies of the con. It's always a little bittersweet to have to leave our friends.  NDK always feels like this amazing reunion but it's always much too short.  I will miss everyone so much already!

Two days passed.

Imagine my surprise and shock when I went to work a few days later and found an email from World Cosplay Summit telling us we were the runner-up team in Denver and that we were also invited to compete in the summit finals!! I literally screamed at my phone (and my sister wondered what on earth was wrong with me) and blew up Elrowiel's phone all morning until I could share the news.  I was freaking out the entire day, just bouncing in my seat at the office while co-workers thought I'd had too many Red Bulls.

It's going to take some tight budgeting since we didn't win the paid trip, but it is so very worth it for a second chance!  (Haha, I felt like I must know how Chris March of Project Runway Season 4 felt when he got called back to have another chance at fashion week. XD  Such a project runway nerd...)  So we are re-working the skit and should have some fun new stuff to show in Maryland in February!  So excited!!

Trying to cut back on cons has proven a failure though, as I've plans in the works for Anime Banzai, Anime Vegas, Anime LA, and Sakura-con in the coming months too. @_@  Most of them are small little weekend trips though and not too far away, so should be fun!  Thanks for reading, sorry it was so long!!

Wah, I hate it when I want to get things done, plan to work on them, and then at the last minute, disaster strikes.  I was going to get so much stuff done this weekend and ended up sick Saturday night.  I've still got some of it left, but it's mostly gone.  But spending Sunday puking my guts out and watching every Disney movie we have wasn't how I planned to spend the day. :(  Bah.

Japanese class is fun, we're almost through the chapter on home and family and giving descriptions for people and places.  I've been flipping back through some of my old doujinshi and found there are some bits I can actually understand! haha... Sometimes things will click for me really easily and I'll understand right away, but other times, I'll have to repeat it four or five times before it really sticks. ^^;  I have noticed a difference though, just in studying an extra 1/2 hour a day.  (well, not really "extra" since I wasn't studying at all to begin with...)  I feel kind of bad though, since there is another girl in class who I know studies much harder than I do, but still seems to get lower marks on tests and things.

Went to a haunted house last week.  Nightmare on 13th.  I didn't have high hopes since the best haunted house in the state closed last year and 13th has been consistently... unimpressive.  But I actually really enjoyed it.  They've upped the quality since the last time I was there.  Mostly it was fun, I think the only part that honestly creeped me out any was the Ring section haha...  but it was fun.  It used to be that the chainsaw people scared me, but it's mostly the noise haha... Now I've seen them so many times it doesn't really phase me. ^^;

What else... looking forward to this weekend.  Going out for a writer's retreat type thing.  I've got no idea what I'm going to write about.  Gah... It'll probably be fanfiction, but I worry about doing that since we have to read bits of our stories aloud on the last night... I'm also still trying to get ideas for my nano-novel coming up in november.  I thought about doing a supernatural crime type novel or something, but I think it would be too much work haha... and I'm not good with murder mysteries. ^^;  Guess we'll see how it goes.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I went to see Thriller with my mom and sister the other day.  It's a medley of Halloween songs and dances and it was really fun and done really well ^^  The River of Blood Dance was great... and there was another bit with VooDoo cheerleaders... and vampires and all kinds of fun stuff.  I don't go to the theater very often, but I always enjoy myself when I go. ^^

Man... it's things like these that destroy my faith in online quizzes... T^T  I am NOT like the perky cheerleader dangit!!  *fist shakey*

Find out what heroes character are you at LiquidGeneration.com!

Gah... anyway... Figured I'd write something since I hadn't in a while.  I'm gonna go see my new nephew tomorrow, yay~  With a big long car ride over... boo~
Had a Japanese test today... Stuff about ordering food.  I still can't get the Japanese characters to work for if I want to post in Japanese somewhere.  I have to like... copy and paste from existing alphabets which gets really tiring and I can't use any kanji if I do that... Does anyone know how to work that?  I tried a couple of online tutorials that say how to install the stuff to make it do that, but I can't get any of them to work.  Ah well.
I think I did pretty well on the test.  I need to go back and study the stuff from first semester again though, I think I'm getting rusty with particles and some of the vocabulary...  Me and my epic powers of procrastination...
Working on a new webpage layout for my home site.  I'll probably rename it, revamp it, all that fun stuff.  It just looks really... D: gah.  Um, so yeah, I want to rework it.  If anyone is good with html and wants to help out, let me know?  I'm having trouble with some of my tables and such.
Oh yeah!  Has anyone heard that new song by Finger Eleven, "Paralyzer?"  I really like it.  It's been stuck in my head all day.  And the music video is pretty neat too.  It's an interesting style of dancing, but cool to watch.
Edit: OH!  And I got a phone call from Optimus Prime today.  He told me all about his movie out on dvd and the Decepticon menace.  It was epic.

OMG E.S.P. [10 Jul 2007|04:20pm]
Haha... I found out today that I'm a psychic *_*  Behold my awesome story.  It cracked me up...

Okay, so student services conference was today.  I could only make it to the 2nd half.  So I got to see this illusionist guy at lunch, which was pretty cool.  And Hollie showed up and we dorked around a lot and were awed and amazed by the guy's intuitive powers.  He was blindfolded and he still could tell what things someone was holding up.  it was neat.  ANYWAY...

Hollie and I decided to go to the lecture he was teaching afterward.  We joked about it being "divination" class.  *cough*  So, we get to class and he starts talking about dowsing.  Which, for anyone that doesn't know is when you have a pendulum like that girl on escaflowne.  We did a simplified version with just "yes" or "no" answers.  Now personally, I think the whole thing is really silly, but y'know, some people dig it, so I was just goofing around and having fun.

SO.  At the end of class we did a test to see how good we were.  This guy hides pulls out a set of cards, all either sun, moon, or stars.  there's several of each in his deck.  And has another guy pick two cards at random and put them in his pocket.  So he does.  Then he has us use our pendulums to guess what cards they are.  I get the first one right!  Hollie got it wrong. We laugh.  And move on.  We do it again.  Same result!  Haha... I got it right again!  So by now Hollie pouting and i'm laughing and the guy asks if anyone got it right both times.  About 4 or 5 people raise their hands, and he picks me for this other demonstration.

He sets a padlock on the table and 3 keys.  Then tells me to try the keys, whichever i think will open it.  I try all 3 and NONE of them do.  Then the bugger pulls out a 4th key and is like "ho ho, that's cuz it's this one."  And lets me try it in the lock.  Sure enough.  it opens.  So then he has me turn around and he mixes up the keys.  Then he tells me to pick one without thinking about it, just at random.  So i do.  IT WAS THE RIGHT KEY ON THE FIRST TRY!! *_*  LOL... I thought it was hilarious.

So after the class, we got to go to a raffle.  and out of sheer dorkiness I decide to tell hollie's and my fortune and see if we'll win anything.  It comes up that I will win something and she won't.  Hollie is like "yeah, whatever..."  And I'm like "I'll just die if it happens."

Yeah, I won a nifty notebook. *_*  hehe... it was awesome.  Poor Hollie.  ^^

So... my brother moved to Arizona the other day.  It was one of those kinda out-of-the-blue things.  Still not sure what to think about that.  I hope that it works out ok.

Started watching a new anime series called Higurashi no naku koro ni?  It's really bizarre.  About an old village that's cursed and people go crazy and kill each other there.  It's done in really cutesy style though, so it's a little unnerving.  It kind of reminds me of Choose Your Own Adventure because it resets itself every 3 or 4 eps. and everyone kills each other again in different ways >.>  Very weird.

Valentine's Day officially fails [15 Feb 2007|11:58am]
I think that me and Valentine's Day must be mortal enemies.  It is like my own personal Friday, the 13th.  Without fail, something annoying and/or bad always happens on that day.  And this year was no different.

I got the hotel reserved for Anime Banzai.  It is officially gonna be August 31st through September 1st at the Sheraton.  Yay.  All the paperwork is signed and now we can get down to planning since we're down about 2 months from the usual.  Which means we've got just a little over 6 months to finish up plans.  YIKES.

Anyway... that's not the bad news.  After that, I went to pick up No-chan and drop some stuff by for our friend.  We were on our way to anime club when low and behold, I see a police car with lights flashing that wants to turn left in front of me at an intersection.  It was a  little surprising, so I put on my brakes quickly and stopped in time.  The 2 cars behind me, however, did not.  First I felt just a little bumper tap.  It was startling, but not bad.  Then about 1 second later, we got a BIG smash.  Ouch.

So we pulled our little parade off to a side street where all the cops just happened to be congregating for a drug bust of some sort.  Woo.  So we had to wait for a while for an officer to even have time to do an incident report.  Luckily the car wasn't hurt too badly and me and No-chan are ok, though my neck is kinda sore. >.<

Good thing though?  When I got home, I got flowers for like, the first time EVER on Valentine's Day.  That was way nice Mr. Anonymous!  I was happy to get them.  It made this Valentine's a little easier to bear ^^;  Thank you!!

It's weird... now that I've started actually like... writing stuff in my LJ, I think about doing it more often.  Er... well sort of.  I think "hm... I could write about that, that wouldn't be boring at least..."  Anyhoo...

Japanese class is going well.  We got to meet some college students from Japan today.  It was... interesting.  The teacher said we could ask questions, but only if they were in Japanese >.<  And I was too scared lol...  I can write the language ok and I can listen and understand it ok, but when I have to speak it myself, I get all... quiet and my brain just forgets everything. ^^;;;  Oh well.  One of them was named Sayako and isn't that the name of the girl in "The Grudge" or "The Ring" or something?  Anyway, she was cute and studied Kendo.  Then there was a guy with spikey pink hair.  He kind of reminded me of Shin from Nana because he had piercings all up and down his ears, spikey hair, and that sort of punkish fashion.  Only... more pink.  He had a big Pink Panther keychain, so I'm assuming that was his role model... lol...

Oh yeah... we had to write sentences today... or at least try.  Mine was "My sister and I like tall boys."  Watashi to watashi no imouto mo takai otoko ga suki desu. ♥  Yesterday someone's sentence was "Your mom is hot." That one was fun too...

What else... I finally beat FF12(Ashley-pii helped!).  I wonder why they made Vaan the main character when really... he isn't that important to the story.  Cute though.  I liked the costume designs.  I think Larsa was my favorite, he was just adorable!  Little genius cute boy... and Balthier was awesome too, he ties with Larsa or is a close close second.  ^^;  I was a little disappointed with the ending though.  I didn't do all the sidequests and stuff, so maybe I didn't get the bonus footage?  Does anyone know?  Anyway... I think that's about it.

I don't know who the original writer was, but I thought this was awesome and should be passed along. I can't even say how many times I've had people try to use those same excuses... or people who tell me "oh i found this great opportunity for you to do *blank* for free!" >.<  Even/especially with cosplay commissions.  People get soooo annoyed when I tell them what I charge for costumes and MOST of the time, I'm making less than, or just over minimum wage per hour.  And that's for SKILLED labor.  Not just grunt work.  Sewing is something that took me a long time to LEARN.  *cough*  Anyway... I'll get off my soapbox, but please read this article and pass along if you like!

Every day, there are more and more Craigs List posts seeking “artists” for everything from auto graphics to comic books to corporate logo designs. More people are finding themselves in need of some form of illustrative service.

But what they’re NOT doing, unfortunately, is realizing how rare someone with these particular talents can be.

To those who are “seeking artists”, let me ask you; How many people do you know, personally, with the talent and skill to perform the services you need? A dozen? Five? One? …none?

More than likely, you don’t know any. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be posting on craigslist to find them.

And this is not really a surprise.

In this country, there are almost twice as many neurosurgeons as there are professional illustrators. There are eleven times as many certified mechanics. There are SEVENTY times as many people in the IT field.

So, given that they are less rare, and therefore less in demand, would it make sense to ask your mechanic to work on your car for free? Would you look him in the eye, with a straight face, and tell him that his compensation would be the ability to have his work shown to others as you drive down the street?

Would you offer a neurosurgeon the “opportunity” to add your name to his resume as payment for removing that pesky tumor? (Maybe you could offer him “a few bucks” for “materials”. What a deal!)

Would you be able to seriously even CONSIDER offering your web hosting service the chance to have people see their work, by viewing your website, as their payment for hosting you?

If you answered “yes” to ANY of the above, you’re obviously insane. If you answered “no”, then kudos to you for living in the real world.

But then tell me… why would you think it is okay to live out the same, delusional, ridiculous fantasy when seeking someone whose abilities are even less in supply than these folks?

Graphic artists, illustrators, painters, etc., are skilled tradesmen. As such, to consider them as, or deal with them as, anything less than professionals fully deserving of your respect is both insulting and a bad reflection on you as a sane, reasonable person. In short, it makes you look like a twit.

A few things you need to know;

1. It is not a “great opportunity” for an artist to have his work seen on your car/’zine/website/bedroom wall, etc. It IS a “great opportunity” for YOU to have their work there.

2. It is not clever to seek a “student” or “beginner” in an attempt to get work for free. It’s ignorant and insulting. They may be “students”, but that does not mean they don’t deserve to be paid for their hard work. You were a “student” once, too. Would you have taken that job at McDonalds with no pay, because you were learning essential job skills for the real world? Yes, your proposition it JUST as stupid.

3. The chance to have their name on something that is going to be seen by other people, whether it’s one or one million, is NOT a valid enticement. Neither is the right to add that work to their “portfolio”. They get to do those things ANYWAY, after being paid as they should. It’s not compensation. It’s their right, and it’s a given.

4. Stop thinking that you’re giving them some great chance to work. Once they skip over your silly ad, as they should, the next ad is usually for someone who lives in the real world, and as such, will pay them. There are far more jobs needing these skills than there are people who possess these skills.

5. Students DO need “experience”. But they do NOT need to get it by giving their work away. In fact, this does not even offer them the experience they need. Anyone who will not/can not pay them is obviously the type of person or business they should be ashamed to have on their resume anyway. Do you think professional contractors list the “experience” they got while nailing down a loose step at their grandmother’s house when they were seventeen?

If you your company or gig was worth listing as desired experience, it would be able to pay for the services it received. The only experience they will get doing free work for you is a lesson learned in what kinds of scrubs they should not lower themselves to deal with.

6. (This one is FOR the artists out there, please pay attention.) Some will ask you to “submit work for consideration”. They may even be posing as some sort of “contest”. These are almost always scams. They will take the work submitted by many artists seeking to win the “contest”, or be “chosen” for the gig, and find what they like most. They will then usually have someone who works for them, or someone who works incredibly cheap because they have no originality or talent of their own, reproduce that same work, or even just make slight modifications to it, and claim it as their own. You will NOT be paid, you will NOT win the contest. The only people who win, here, are the underhanded folks who run these ads. This is speculative, or “spec”, work. It’s risky at best, and a complete scam at worst. I urge you to avoid it, completely. For more information on this subject, please visit [link].

So to artists/designers/illustrators looking for work, do everyone a favor, ESPECIALLY yourselves, and avoid people who do not intend to pay you. Whether they are “spec” gigs, or just some guy who wants a free mural on his living room walls. They need you. You do NOT need them. Say NO to free art.

And for those who are looking for someone to do work for free…please wake up and join the real world. The only thing you’re accomplishing is to insult those with the skills you need. Get a clue.

If you agree with the above important information, please pass it along. The more people know, the faster we can correct this.

I am sitting on safety pins right now.  Yes, I have a story to tell today.  So... I was digging in my closet for clothes since the dress code has changed recently.  I found a pair of awesome baggy black pants that I love.  they're faux suede i think.  But huge like pajama pants.  and really warm.  So I wondered why I hadn't worn them... it was because the tie at the waist needed to be replaced.  So... I replaced it this morning and went off on my merry way.

It wasn't until my class in the morning that I realized something was amiss...  I was suspicious, thinking there was some other reason I hadn't worn the pants... and I found out that it was because there was a rather large hole in the bottom.  Now I understand why the people behind me were snickering when we all got up to bow to the sensei.  Whoops.  So... surprisingly enough, even being the sewing fanatic I am, I did NOT have a kit on me.  I had to resort to safety pins.  It's a good thing I'm one of them Emo kids and have a bunch decorating my backpack.

And I actually had TIME this morning, so I was looking all cute and stuff.  Bummer!  But I did find some cool contact lenses.  Colored ones, yay.  They're only 12 bucks a pair, so I got green, blue, and purple to play with.  Yay!

I'm posting.  Praise me.

Just in case I'm offending anyone, I just wanted to say that No, I don't read my friends page.  Sorry, I suck.  I know.  So if something huge is going on, I probably don't know about it.  Phones are good.  Emails... texts...  but I'm really bad at remembering to check LJ.  Heck, how often do I post?  So if you want me to know something, a more direct approach may be necessary.  Or you could just kick me and say "read my LJ dangit."  That works too.

Anyway... for those of you that DO read their friends lj pages... good on you.  You're probably a very nice person.  I suppose I could use LJ to air all my crap and vent about things, but I really don't think it would be very interesting.  I'm kind of boring.  It would mostly me complaining about getting in over my head.  Always.  I can't say no to people.  I suck at it.  Hard.

But since I guess some people want to know, here's some things that are new or possibly of interest -

* I have a car.  It is silver.  I'm thinking of naming it Riku.  Other suggestions are welcome.

* Car costs a lot of money.  I need a 2nd job or to go to less conventions.  Or maybe both.  Or maybe I just need a full time that pays more and has benefits.  Either way, I will probably turn in a few applications then stew about it for a while.

* I'm taking a Japanese class this semester.  i want to do the study abroad program, but I am poor and learning the language is about the best I can hope for right now.  It may become more likely if I get off my butt and do the "find a job" thing.

* I'm annoyed at Final Fantasy 12.  My copy is broken or something.  No matter what point in the game I start at, it freezes up within about 15 minutes.  it's not the ps2, that's brand new.  It doesn't do it on any other games.  And the game has hardly been touched since I got it.  I think it's a glitch and I just need to go exchange it, but I don't know if they will since I play it so sparingly and it's been a while since I bought it and discovered said glitch.

* I get to go to the Hilton tomorrow and get the hotel reserved for our convention, Anime Banzai.  That part I am relatively fine with.  It's everything else to do with the con that worries me.  It seems like the more we expand, the more drama we get.  I hate drama.

* I want to work on AMVs, but I lack footage.  Kinda sucks.  I need Bleach and Host Club and D.Gray-man.  Guess we'll see.  Be nice to get some done in time for NDK.

I think that's it.  Look for another post from me in several months.

Gah... I feel like banging my head on the desk.  Stupid ndk stuff... They changed the costume contest rules so 50% of the people can now register online for the contest, but the only problem is, most of the people who want to participate didn't know about that.  So it's gonna be really hard to get a spot onsite.  Blah.  I've spent over 20 hours just on the applique for this costume and i'll be so mad if i don't get to at least show it at the con >.<  *incoherent cursing*  bah... i guess i can understand the reasoning for some of it since some people don't get there until later if they're from out of town, but i come from utah and i've always made it to the costume registration without too much hassle.

Our con here in Utah is looming over me like a giant mutant hamster waiting to eat my brains... it's overwhelming when I think of all the stuff that still needs to be done.  >.<  I'm way too slow.  Ha... well I can only do what I can only do.  Might as well sit back and enjoy the ride, right?

Ah, and I wanted to show off my new icon.  It expresses my lack of coherent thought rather well today... ^^ ('cept i just realized you actually have to go in to the "comment on this post" to see what it is...)
